Mobile devices are becoming increasingly popular. One reason for their popularity is the availability of a wide range of third-party applications, which enrich the environment and increase usability.  There are however various concerns centered around these applications: privacy leakage, malware, etc. 

In this talk, I will present our recent research to secure these apps towards a more trustworthy Android ecosystem.  One representative work is Uranine, a system that instruments Android applications to detect privacy leakages in real-time. Uranine does not require any platform modification nor does it need the application source code. It includes a static analysis component to instrument only paths along which privacy leakage may happen. We designed several mechanisms to overcome challenges introduced by framework code, callback functions, etc. Our evaluation of Uranine shows that it is accurate at detecting privacy leakages while providing acceptable performance, with often unnoticeable overhead. 

    

主讲人介绍: 

陈焰, 2003年获加州大学伯克利分校计算机科学博士学位,现为西北大学电子工程与计算机科学系教授,互联网安全技术实验室主任,主要研究方向为Internet网络安全和网络管理/测量。2005年获得美国能源部青年成就奖(Early CAREER Award),2007年获得美国国防部(Air Force of Scientific Research)青年学者奖(Young Investigator Award),20042005年分别获得Microsoft可信计算奖(Trustworthy Computing Awards)。2010-2011 年被清华大学信息学院邀请为桑坦德海外访问学者. 2012 年入选浙江省千人(海鸥计划)加盟浙大任特聘教授。     

Google Scholar显示,论文总引用超过6000次,H-index指数为32。有2项美国专利(另提交了4项)。论文Generic and Automatic Address Configuration for Data Center Networks 入选SIGCOMM 2010最佳论文候选,应邀直接在ACM/IEEE ToN上出版ACM/IEEE Transaction on Networking (ToN)IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing (TMC)IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications (J-SAC)Journal of Computer Networks等顶级期刊和SIGCOMMIEEE Symposium on Security and PrivacyOakland)、USENIX NSDINDSS ACM ASPLOSSIGCOMM IMCIEEE / IFIP DSN 等顶级会议上发表了80余篇论文。担任IWQoS2007SecureComm 2009Globecom 2010 NGN等国际会议的技术程序委员会主席,并受邀加入ACM Computer and Communication Security (CCS) 20092011 SIGCOMM IMC 2009的组织委员会, 并担任ACM CCS 2011的总主席及 World Wide Web (WWW) 2012的技术程序委员会副主席(分管计算机安全和隐私领域). 担任包括ACM MOBICOMNDSS INFOCOMICNPICDCS在内的多个国际会议的程序委员会成员。担任IWQoS会议指导委员会成员(2008-2011)。自2004年起多次受邀在美国自然科学基金委信息科学与工程处担任评委, 并多次受邀担任美国能源部(DOE)和美国空军科研部(DOD) SBIR计划及STTR计划的评委。    

研究项目获美国自然科学基金委多次资助,并与Motorola, NEC, 华为等多家公司有项目合作并获资助。2013年受邀为中国互联网企业安全工作组学术委员会成员。
